How To Polish Golf Clubs

How to Polish Golf Clubs

If you're like me, you give your golf clubs a deep clean every once in a while. Nothing is more satisfying than completely emptying out your bag, and giving the sticks a good scrub down. The boost of confidence you get when you step out on to the golf course with clean clubs is unmatched.

Polishing your golf clubs can be a nice addition to the golf club care routine. It takes it a step further by not only cleaning your clubs, but giving them a nice shine. However, it is important to polish your clubs correctly, or you may end up damaging their factory finish, causing rust or tarnish. Ready to learn how to properly polish your golf clubs? Let's get into it.

Tutorial

It's important to properly prepare your clubs for polishing. Skipping this step could result in worse results or even damage to your clubs.

Step 1: Clean clubs thoroughly to remove dirt and grime

Using a golf club cleaning solution or soap and water, thoroughly clean your golf clubs, removing any and all dirt and build up. Use a scrub brush to agitate any dirt or residue that is stuck.

The reason for thoroughly cleaning the club before polishing is because if you buff the club with dirt and residue still on it, you risk rubbing that dirt into the club and causing scratches.

Once the club is completely clean, use a clean and dry towel to dry the club.

Step 2: Apply Golf Club Polish and buff it into the club

Take a clean and dry towel and apply a dime-sized amount of Golf Club Polish. (Note: it is important to use a golf club specific polish over a generic metal polish because generic polishes can ruin the finish on your clubs)

Buff the polish into the club head for 3-5 minutes, spending time on each part of the club head. Once you start to see the club shine, take a clean part of the towel and wipe the club clean.

Step 3: Clean club head again

Once you are satisfied with the shine, you may want to use the golf club cleaning solution to ensure that all the polishing residue is removed from the club.

Why Should I Polish My Golf Clubs?

Polishing your golf clubs can not only benefit you on the course, but off the course as well. Golf is an incredibly psychological game and any advantage can help. Playing with freshly polished clubs gives you a confidence boost on the course.

Another advantage of polishing your clubs is that you are extending their lifespan and increasing their value. Regularly polishing your clubs will keep them looking better for longer and help them hold their value should you ever sell them.
